Earring Organizer

Another DIY project this time a Egg Container Jewelry Organizer.  As some of you might know when you are packing a sedan for the summer only the necessities get to come along.  Over the corse of the summer you realize all the things that you would never consider a necessity but you just miss on a day to day basis. One of those things for me is a way to organize my jewelry.

My jewelry

I only brought a a fraction of my collection but still enough to try and dress my entire summer wardrobe. This summer like most summers everything just lays out on the counter or in cosmetic travel pouches but not this summer.

Egg Container Earring Organizer:

Supplies
Left over egg container
I cut the top off of the egg container as well as the front flap with a pair of kitchen scissors

Cutting time
Some how I managed to only pack 5 pairs of earrings so I trimmed off the ends of the crate, no need to fill up the counter with wasted space.

I also rounded the edges so it would look nicer.

I could have gone to Walmart and bought craft paint for a $1 or $2, but I decided to go to Home Depot instead.  The paint department at HomeDepot sells test sizes of their paint for 2 or 3 dollars and will mix any color sample you pull.  Which is way more fun than Walmart.  I wanted a bright color so I chose Royal Purple it happend to be a premixed color but was on sale for $2.

Royal Purple indeed.
It also came with its own brush, which was great since I didn't have one.

Bright isn't it

The room paint was great and I only had to do one coat.  I was worried the cardboard would soak up all the color and grey it out.  After a bit of touch up work and letting it dry over night I was ready for my jewelry.

The artsy angle

The cup sizes fit my earrings perfectly I even used some of the extra pockets for small necklaces and bobbi pins.

Jewelry Organized!

Since the indents where way too small for most of my necklaces I hung them, as well as my headbands, on my hand towel rack.  Hand towels also did not make the packing list.  Not the prettiest picture but you get the idea.

In hind sight I realized it would have been cooler if I had not trimme the extra pockets evenly but had offset them by one which would have made it look more abstract.  Maybe next time. Either way I am still really pleased.  I may not have been the first person to come up with this idea, but I was pretty impressed when I did.

Summery:
Cost:
                       Paint          $2
(Egg cart left over, well from eggs)

Time:  2 hours (getting paint, painting, touch ups, drying time)
Average : $1/hr entertainment

Perks:
My counter is more organized and I got to upcycle trash, it always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.  And I have half the bottle of paint left over.
