Fish Market

Those of you hoping for a huge market ala the streets of Marry Poppins' England you will be disappointed.  Those of you impressed that I can walk to the fish market from my apartment will be pretty excited.

Daniel and I have a apartment downtown half a block of the surprisingly happening downtown SONO district (South Norwalk).

Downtown
Living downtown allows Daniel to walk to work which is great since we are sharing the car. It also means I am a minute walk from enjoying downtown and its shop, which is fantastic when we paid $4.20 a gallon last time we filled up the car here!

SONO Harbor
This harbor is three blocks from our apartment.

SONO Seaport Seafood bridge view
A close up on the fish market.  You can tell the fish is fresh when the store from has a dock, or at least I hope. Sadly the light house is purely decretive but I feel very satisfied that Connecticut is living up to my New England Light House stereotype.

Street view

So step one in exploring the town, dinner from the fish market.  I have decided there is no reason I should ever buy fish expect the same day I am going to cook it as the market is open 7 days a week.  It is also a restaurant, so the building is much bigger than the just the fish counter which is the size of a roomy living room.

I wanted to take a picture of the inside but Daniel convinced me I would look dumb and since I plan on being a weekly customer I chickened out.  But I have a lot of summer to fill so there will probably be one coming.

Close up of Door.
For now you will have to settle for a close up fo the door, lame I know.

They are great selection of fish to choice from, Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Sword Fish, Cod, Sole... and fresh clams and mussels.  I think this will be a fairly fish heavy summer especially since the prices are as good as the grocery store.

While the close walk is great for convince, it doesn't take that much time so I meander downtown a bit on the way to the fish market and swung by a grocery store for kabob sticks.  That is right I can walk to a grocery store as well, it is too small for a real trip but works when you need one thing.

Dinner!
I decided on a 1/2 lb of tuna.  In hindsight I should have photographed the kabobs they were much more photogenic.

Summery:
Cost:
              Tuna                  $5.50
              Kabob Sticks      $2.00
             Total                   $7.50

Time: 1 hour ( Meandering to the store, picking fish, meandering back)
Average : $7.5/hr entertainment

Perks:
I bought dinner. I thought about not even totaling the cost as I was going to have to buy the fish for dinner anyway, the trip to the fish market was much more enjoyable than driving to the super market.

We broiled tuna kabobs with a mustard marinade, we go the recipe out of South Beach, it was pretty good.
